What is educational marketing? For starters, people like information. Just think about how many times you have gone to the internet to search for something. Maybe you were looking for an answer to a question you had. Or a recipe for a favorite food. Or instructions to help you fix your kitchen faucet.
As a marketer, you can use this desire for information to help your customers and clients. You can also use it to help build your business.
Your goal in using a blog to build your business is to get people to want what you have to offer. The best way to do this is to educate them about what you have to offer. You want to help them understand the reasons why they need what you have and why they should come to you to get it. Don’t just tell them what you have is valuable and important, tell them why it is. The more reasons “why” you can give them, the more educated they become. The greater they perceive the value of what you are offering.
Just think of a child. When you are trying to teach them anything, they always want to know “why?” They have a naturally inquisitive mind and need to know why you want them to do something. With a child, you can give them almost any reason, and they are satisfied and usually comply.
Adults are similar. The natural inquisitiveness is still there, but they need a more educated reason why. So you teach them about your subject. As they become more educated on what you are offering, the less they have to be “sold”. That is a good thing! No one wants to be sold.
The key to educational marketing is to give people information that is valuable all by itself. Educate them! An educated prospect is the best kind of prospect. When people learn about something and are in agreement with it, they take “ownership” of it. They actually sell themselves!
So think of your prospect and target market. What kind of information are they looking for? What will help them solve a problem? How can the knowledge you have help them?
